CHROES
According to the theoretical
books of Byzantine Music, three fthorika sings, among others, are zygos (double
sharp), kliton (hemifthoron) and spathi (flat-sharp), which the Musical
Committee of 1881-83 named as chroes. Among the notes, when the chroes are
placed, some specific intervals are formed. There are different opinions, among
the theoreticians, in regard to the intervals, which are formed between the
notes. The two Cypriot theoreticians (Stylianos Chourmouzios and economos
Charalambos), through their experience, as well as through their personal
research, have settled upon some specific intervals, which are mentioned in
their theoretical book. In the present work, the consideration of the intervals
from contemporary theoreticians, as well as from the two Cypriot theoreticians,
is criticised.
