THE INTERVALS OF THE DIATONIC GENERA
Two Cypriot theoreticians of the
chanting art are Stylianos
Chourmouzios and economos Charalambos. In the two theoretic books of these two Cypriot musicians, we can find
parallel views about the intervals of the different modes. The two Cypriot theoreticians
through their experience, as well as through their personal research, have
settled upon some specific intervals, which are mentioned in their theoretical
books. In the present work, we try to collate the two theoretic books, as well
as to compare these with other contemporary and old theoretic books, such as
the theoretic book of Chysanthos from Madyta.
